Kilcullen local services during Covid-19

7 AUGUST

Kilcullen Community Centre
will be closed from midnight tonight as a result of the new restrictions in County Kildare.

There's been confirmation of earlier reports that new lockdown measures are to be imposed in Kildare, Laois and Offaly from midnight.

Following an increase in the numbers of Covid-19 cases in Kildare, Laois and Offaly over the last 14 days, special advice for those living in the counties has been issued by the National Public Health Emergency Team.

3 JULY

Kilcullen Parish Church has been marked out for social distancing, in advance of the first public masses since the coronavirus lockdown, to be celebrated this weekend.

Bardons, Fallons, and The River Cafe have reopened for food service indoors, with restrictions on numbers and spacing. Best of luck to the local restaurant and bar trade. It has been tough, and it's not going to be easy to pick up the pieces.

21 JUNE

Bardon's Restaurant will be reopening on Monday 29 June, with limits on numbers and other restrictions in line with the guidelines. Bookings only, 045 482286. Other local businesses reopening include Fallons Restaurant, on Tuesday 30 June. By booking only, 045 481260. As previously posted, a number of hair and beauty businesses will be reopening their doors to clients from 29 June.

6 JUNE

Kilcullen Community Centre staff have been busy preparing for the re-opening of Kilcullen Community Centre and All Weather Pitch.

23 MAY

Five hundred 'comfort parcels' were assembled in Kilcullen Community Centre today by members of the County Kildare Red Cross Community Support Unit, for distribution to people who are isolated at home during the coronavirus.

The Kildare Sports Partnership, in association with Sport Ireland, is conducting a survey to see how the Covid pandemic has affected people's physical activity levels.

Kildare County Council invites applications for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation’s Re-Start Fund – a fund to reconnect small and micro businesses with their employees and customers.

22 MAY

Kilcullen Family Practice is open for business but the work of the practice has changed greatly and will remain that way for some time to come.

A project to record Kildare people's experiences during the Covid-19 situation has been set up by the Kildare Library and Arts Service.

Kildare County Council has announced that meetings of Kildare County Council, including Municipal District meetingswill resume soon.

Following the rapid filling of places in a Health & Safety Workshop for Re-opening Your Business after Covid 19, the Kildare Local Enterprise Office has allocated two more dates for the free event.

18 MAY

A regular provision of meals to older and vulnerable people in Kilcullen who have been cocooning has now ended, but volunteers are still available to collect and deliver takeaway meals from local food outlets for anyone who has difficulty in getting out.

16 MAY

15 MAY

Kilcullen Community Action is asking that people might restrict their walks in The Valley Park, leaving it open for cocooners between 1.30pm-3.30pm.

14 MAY

On the assumption that Optometrists will indeed be re-opening on Monday next, pending confirmation from the Government on Friday, Nichola Kennedy Optometrist has been preparing in many ways.

There was a very positive response to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer's appeal on behalf of the local Community Red Cross for donations to help local families.

The Kalbarri Cookery School takeaway family meal for five this Saturday 16 May, will be Beef Lasagne with Kalbarri Potato Salad, Cheesecake Crumble with Rhubarb and Raspberry compote.

The need for some maintenance work on the Valley Park was raised at Thursday night's meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, with reference to the current coronavirus protocols.

Some new books have arrived at Woodbine Books and are available online at their website, pending reopening the shop premises hopefully in early June.

12 MAY

Kilcullen Tennis Club in Logstown are delighted to be re-opening the courts on the 18th May and look forward to starting the new tennis season.

From 18 May, Re-Vamps home restoration and repair service will be able to undertake outside work again.

Kilcullen Bouncy Castles will be available for hire again from 18 May.

An Online Open Day will be held by the Kildare Steiner Secondary School on Saturday 30 May.

Nearly €3,000 was raised last weekend for Naas Hospital by No 1 Fitness participants in a Mallorca Virtual Challenge for Kids and Adults.

County Kildare Chamber has asked that businesses in the county should relay any views they have on the new National 'Return to Work Safely' Protocol to the Chamber by close of business today.

Nichola Kennedy Optometrist will be open again on 18 May, as opticians are in the first phase of the lifting of restrictions. As social distancing restrictions will still be in place, she is awaiting clarification from the Opticians Association of Ireland as to what level of service will be possible. The Kildare Local Enterprise Office has added a second series of business training workshops on Cash Management in a Crisis - A Vital Approach for SMEs during COVID 19.

19 APRIL

Fundraising at the Jack & Jill Children's Foundation has been devastated by Covid19, closing the Foundation's nine charity shops and cancelling most of its fundraising events. The charity is urging the public to donate €4 by texting the words 'We Care' to 50300 or to give what they can through www.jackandjill.ie.

17 APRIL

Alkebabish Kilcullen is open for collection of food ordered by phone or online. Card payment where possible and only one person will be allowed in at a time for collection. Customers will be phoned when their order is ready.

As the fine weather continues and those who can are getting out for their walks, runs, cycles or whatever for exercise, do you know what's a 2km distance from home?

An electronic version of The Bridge is published today. The print magazine will resume again at the end of coronavirus.

Brennans Hardware is reopening for phoned orders to either be delivered or collected at the back gate.

Woodbine Books is open for online orders from today, Tuesday 14 April. This follows the issuing of new guidelines from the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).

12 APRIL

Bardons Takeaway Service is open again today, with orders from 1pm-8pm, and collection slots between 5pm-8.30pm. Full details on their Facebook page.

11 APRIL

Karen Cradock of Kilcullen-based Heart2Heart Cardiac Physiotherapy is offering two free sessions of cardiovascular exercise online, on 21 and 28 April.

10 APRIL

Most businesses in County Kildare that have closed due to the coronavirus expect the closure to last 12 weeks.

Armelle's Kitchen will have fresh-made hot cross buns later today.

A Stations of the Cross video for children has been put together in Kilcullen with simple readings and prayers. It will be available today, Good Friday, 10th April, to view on Kilcullen Diary, on Kilcullen Parish website, on Kilcullen Facebook page and on YouTube.

Kildare County Council is asking the public to š—”š—¢š—§ use the recycling banks for glass and cans this weekend, but instead to hold onto the glass until next week.

Beware the Covid-19 Text Scam, one of the increasing number of Covid-19 scamsin this instance highlighted by RTE's Health Correspondent Fergal Bowers. Others include 'Netflix' phishing emails asking for account details to be updated.

9 APRIL

The Brown Bear takeaway menus from Thursday 9 April is now available on the restaurant's Facebook page. Opening times for no contact collection are now from 4pm to 8pm from Thursday to Sunday. Call 045 883561.

Though there will be no public Easter ceremonies in the Parish this weekend, a Vigil opportunity is being organised for Saturday night, where people can leave lighted candles at the main door of the Parish Church. 

Nolan's Butchers opening times for the rest of the week are 8am-4pm, with the 8.30-9.30am slot reserved for older and more vulnerable people. Spring Lamb is now in stock, ring 045 481229 to place orders for the Easter weekend.

8 APRIL

In the absence of public Masses, the normal Easter Week ceremonies will be streamed on the Parish CCTV and can be heard on 107FM.

A reminder that all the pitches around the Community Centre and Kilcullen GAA Club are not open at the moment has been issued by Kilcullen Gardai.

From today, GardaĆ­ now have the power to arrest and detain those who breach the Covid-19 restrictions. This includes those found exercising beyond 2km from their homes or those traveling for non-essential reasons. Convictions will result in a maximum sentence of six months in prison and a fine of up to €2,500. GardaĆ­ will also have the power to assist the HSE in detaining someone judged to be at risk of spreading the virus who refuses to self isolate.
