Reminder: Stations of the Cross for children, online on Friday

We begin Holy Week 2020 and it is different to any we have ever before experienced, writes Esther Reddy. We didn’t bring home blessed palm from Palm Sunday Mass, we won’t gather on Thursday to remember the Last Supper, or on Friday to journey with Jesus through the Stations of the Cross.

Easter Sunday will come, and we will stay at home. But thankfully, through the use of the airwaves and modern technology, we will be able to tune into the ceremonies of Holy Week. We have a wonderful webcam service in Kilcullen Church through mcmedia.tv/camera/kilcullen/ and through the broadcast mass radio frequency 107 FM.

To find out the times of the Easter ceremonies that can be watched online or listened to by radio, check out the Kilcullen Parish website.

There has been a tradition in Kilcullen for quite a number of years, to observe the Stations of the Cross in a special way for children on Good Friday at 12 noon. This year, due to restrictions, this cannot be held in our parish church. However, a video of the Stations of the Cross for children has been put together with simple readings and prayers. It is hoped to put this video out on Good Friday, 10th April, and it will be available to view on A Kilcullen Diary, on Kilcullen Parish website, on Kilcullen Facebook page and on YouTube.

Through these Stations of the Cross, the children in our parish are invited to take a little time on Good Friday to think about the difficult journey Jesus made on the first Good Friday, to show us how much He loves us.

Though the Stations show the suffering Jesus endured, we remind our children that Jesus rose in glory on Easter Sunday. In these difficult and strange times, we all look forward to the promise of Easter and to better times ahead.
