Progress on Pinkeen bridge

The unofficial crossing used for many years.

The prospect of a pedestrian bridge over Pinkeen Stream has moved a step further with a clearance received from the OPW and Inland Fisheries, writes Brian Byrne.

The bridge, which will facilitate safe crossing of the stream for residents and school pupils from the Cnoc na Greine and Castlemartin estates, will hopefully now be built in early 2022, according to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer. "It’s all systems go for the bridge which will provide a much safer crossing option for everyone," she said last evening.

Last October, the councillor pledged her remaining allocation of LPT funds discretionary allowance towards the cost of designing the bridge.

The issue has been raised at Council level since at least 2015, notably by Cllrs Rob Power and Fintan Brett, and more recently by Cllr O'Dwyer and Cllr Fiona McLoughlin Healy. Previous Diary reports on the matter can be read below.
