Looking Back: Kilcullen Post Office

The Diary is obliged to PJ Lydon for this photograph of the Kilcullen Post Office, taken in 1947 by Eric Colson, husband of Tessie Kelly from the Milemill Kelly family, writes Brian Byrne.

The Post Office is now part of the Nolan's Butchers emporium, and the photograph was taken two years before the late Julia Buckley took over as Postmistress in Kilcullen (her story is in 'Thirty Years of The Bridge' published by the Kilcullen Heritage Group in 2000).

As an aside, my own great-aunt Peg Byrne was the Postmistress in the same building for many years prior to when this picture was taken.
