Chris Pender re-elected

It took until the sixth count before Social Democrat candidate Chris Pender became the third elected member of the Newbridge LEA, writes Brian Byrne. 

He joined the Fine Gael pair of Tracey O'Dwyer and Peggy O'Dwyer in being returned for a second term as councillor, surpassing the quota of 1,664 with 1,684 votes after the distribution of Sinn Fein candidate Terry Thorpe's votes.

This leaved Noel Heavey FF, Robert Power FF, Melissa Byrne Aontu, James Stokes SF, Aina Conway LAB, Tom O'Donnell IND, James Garvin IND, and Christoir MacCormaic IND seeking the remaining three seats.
