Tracey tops the poll in Newbridge LEA

Tracey O'Dwyer and her Fine Gael running mate Peggy O'Dwyer have been re-elected to Kildare County Council on the first count of the Newbridge LEA, writes Brian Byrne
Tracey topped the poll with 2,084 first preference votes, and Peggy O'Dwyer got 2,016. The quota was 1,664 and having exceeded this both were deemed elected.
As the candidate with the larger surplus, Tracey's extra 420 votes are now being distributed amongst the remaining 12 candidates. As suggested by the earlier tally, Chris Pender also had a strong first preference performance, garnering 1,460 votes. With 1,044 and 839 first preferences respectively, Fianna Fail's Noel Heavey and Rob Power round out the top five going into the second count.
Melissa Byrne Aontu came in with 692, James Stokes SF 644, Aina Conway LAB 619, Tom McDonnell IND 548, James Garvin IND 500, Christoir MacCormaic IND 460, Terri Thorpe SF 383, Ronan Maher GP 189 and Leanne NĂ Neill IND 167.
A happy Tracey O'Dwyer with family following her re-election.
