Book on housing options for seniors available in Woodbine

For those whose interest was piqued by our recent post from Pat O'Mahony on alternative homes for older people, they can now buy his book in Kilcullen.

Dawn in Woodbine Books tells us she has copies available of Rethinking Housing Options for Senior Citizens.

The core premise is that every community should have the equivalent of a retirement village option for older people.

His post was triggered by the controversy over the current planning application for apartments and nursing home facilities on a Naas Road site in Kilcullen.

Reward offered for return of stolen sheep

Photo by Jonathan Borba from Pexels for illustration only.

A reminder that Gardai are investigating the larceny of 40 sheep from land at Harristown two weeks ago, and a reward has been offered by the owner for their return or for information leading to their return, writes Brian Byrne.

The sheep, which were shorn in June, have a blue mark on their shoulder and are easily identified as they are tagged. They were part of a larger flock on the property.

It's understood that without a genuine flock number they will be difficult to dispose of through mart or factory.

Anyone who can provide information should phone 086 2666495, or contact Kilcullen Garda Station at 045 481212 or 086 8583822.

Wild and small in the Valley

Here's a picture of a dormouse, spotted in the Valley by Thelma Kenna.

Noel Clare
tells us that there's a dormouse population apparently settled in the Valley, and he has also spotted some in New Abbey.

"They have become relatively common around stud farms in Kildare - probably coming in originally on straw from France and the UK."

UPDATED: This article has been changed to note that the animal is a dormouse, and not a shrew as previously thought.

Appeal about graffiti

Images: Cnoc na Greine Facebook.

The Cnoc na Greine Residents Association have appealed to people not to indulge in painting graffiti in the estate.

On the Association's Facebook page they note that there is 'nothing attractive or artistic' in such behaviour, which only shows a lack of respect for people living in the estate.

Graffiti amounts to 'criminal damage' according to the gardai, and those found responsible can be prosecuted.
