Wild and small in the Valley


Here's a picture of a dormouse, spotted in the Valley by Thelma Kenna.

Noel Clare
tells us that there's a dormouse population apparently settled in the Valley, and he has also spotted some in New Abbey.

"They have become relatively common around stud farms in Kildare - probably coming in originally on straw from France and the UK."

UPDATED: This article has been changed to note that the animal is a dormouse, and not a shrew as previously thought.
