Council reminder on hedge-cutting
Kildare County Council is reminding landowners whose property adjoins public roads that they should now cut hedge-grows in order that trees, shrubs, or other vegetation does not become a danger to people using the roads.
The Council has issued a notice to that effect, reminding landowners that it is their responsibility to make sure the roadsides are maintained in such condition that they are not a hazard to road users or that they do not interfere with the maintenance of the road.
Section 46(b) of the Wildlife (Amendment) Act, 2000 forbids the cutting, grubbing, burning or destruction of any vegetation growing in a hedge or ditch during the period 1 March to 31 August. Cutting of hedgerows can take place from September to February, when hedgerows are dormant.
