ESB to check for causes of transient outages in Kilcullen

ESB Networks is to visually survey the local network in Kilcullen to see what might be causing transient outages, writes Brian Byrne. These short-duration outages, lasting a couple of minutes or less, have been a concern for the business community.

ESB Networks says the outage durations indicates the automation on the system is working exactly as it should, detecting that a fault is transient and returning power to affected customers within a very short window instead of over several hours.

Such outages can be caused typically by birds, by livestock using poles as scratching posts, or trees along the network can also cause issues. A visual survey on foot is planned, and following this, a plan to mitigate such outages can be put in place, with appropriate devices installed as necessary.
