Presentations round out AFC 50th celebrations
Presentations were made to Freddie Mitchell and Ray Kelly for Lifetime Commitment to Kilcullen AFC last night, at the function in O'Connell's Bar that rounded off the club's 50th anniversary celebrations, writes Brian Byrne.
Club chairman Greg Curran said that as long as he had been involved he had always received great support from the two.
A presentation of a framed jersey was also made to Peter Barrett of sponsors C&C Gleeson. Neil O'Brien said the club was very lucky over recent years in having a sponsor that has 'gone out of their way' to make sure the teams are fully kitted out.
"Coaches can help the teams to play well, but to have the kids looking well too is very important," he said, "so we wanted to acknowledge that."
Thanking everybody who had been involved in organising and supporting the anniversary day, the chairman said it had been a 'fantastic' occasion, and a celebration of what had been a 'huge achievement' in a small community like Kilcullen.
He noted that 2018 has been a vintage year for the club at underage level, and that anyone looking at the games on the day from U9-U12 could see that there's a huge amount of talent coming through the club.
"Anyone today could see that a great amount of work has been done, and I'd like to say a big thanks to all the coaches and all the parents who come along to support us."
