A week left for submissions on county alcohol bye-laws

The closing date for submissions to the draft Kildare County Council Bye-Laws on the Control of Consumption & Possession of Alcohol in Public Places is in just a week's time, writes Brian Byrne.

The by-laws when implemented will apply in 20 towns and villages throughout the county, including Kilcullen, and will specify fixed penalty fines and possible prosecution in the courts for people who contravene them. An earlier public consultation took place last summer. The inspection period concluded last Wednesday 14 October.

Closing date for receipt of submissions and observations is 5pm on Wednesday 28 October 2020.

PJ Lydon appointed Commissioner for Oaths

Kilcullen's PJ Lydon has been appointed a Commissioner for Oaths, writes Brian Byrne.

His application was approved by the Supreme Court on Tuesday 4 December, before the Chief Justice.

PJ retired this time last year as Manager of the Kilcullen Community Centre after 35 years of involvement with the facility.

A Commissioner for Oaths is a person authorised to verify affidavits, which are statements in writing and on oath, and also verifies other legal documents.

People may need the services of a Commissioner for Oaths if they are giving evidence on affidavit for court proceedings in Ireland; or making an affirmation, declaration, acknowledgement, examination, or attestation for the purpose of court proceedings, or for the purposes of registration of documents.

The functions of a Commissioner for Oaths are to make sure that the evidence in question is in written form in the draft affidavit; to establish that the person before him or her has read that draft affidavit and fully understands the contents; to require the person to swear that the affidavit is true; and to verify that the affidavit is properly sworn.

PJ Lydon's phone number is 083 0553999.
