PJ is retiring from Community Centre
PJ Lydon is retiring from his position as Manager of the Kilcullen Community Centre after 35 years of involvement with the facility, writes Brian Byrne.
He will finish on 22 December, according to a letter of resignation which has been accepted by the Board of the Centre.
PJ Joined the Committee of the Centre in 1982, and became Manager in 1989.
"It has been a very big part of my life," he says. "I was always aware of how important the Centre was to our community. My main concern was that we would always have a solid financial backup … I am happy that I am leaving the Centre in a far better position than when I took over."
During his tenure, the Centre was expanded substantially, including the provision of the all-weather pitch, the floodlighting, tarmacking of the car park and more. He has expressed his thanks to the support he received from many people during his time as Manager.
Ronan Murphy says that PJ was the one who 'kept the doors open during the grey years of the 1980s', and on behalf of the Board wishes both PJ and his wife Clare all the best in their retirement. Clare recently retired from managing the Community Employment Scheme.
