Seán stands up for comedy

Fans of stand-up comedy in Kilcullen should mark Saturday 21 September in their diaries for Seán Begley's Faux Pa show, being performed in the Town Hall Theatre, writes Brian Byrne.
The performance follows a sold out tour of his debut Tragic show, and this time Seán is reflecting on the many blunders and challenges he has experienced over the course of the past four decades.
"In general, life's interactions can often be awkward, divisive, and incredibly embarrassing, but each one can be a learning experience," he says. "Faux Pa is about embracing inadequacy, learning from one's errors and ultimately trying to be a better person."
Which all sounds quite serious, but is really, by many accounts, a night of 'big laughs' and an amazing evening of entertainment.
Seán was the winner of the Bray Comedy Festival Best New Act 2018. He was also shortlisted for Ireland's Funniest Joke 2018, participated in RTE Standup and Be Funny 2019, and is a Dublin Story Slam winner.
Bookings can be made at this link, and further information can be had from his Facebook page

Triumph owners visit Heritage Centre

Photos: Esther Moore.

A group of Triumph classic car owners visited Kilcullen Town Hall & Heritage Centre today, and learned more about the 1903 Gordon Bennett Race, writes Brian Byrne.
By arrangement, they viewed a special screening of the documentary How Ireland Saved Motorsport, made by Bailey and Blake Productions in association with the Heritage Offices of Kildare, Carlow and Laois.
The two-part video was previously screened last August in the Town Hall through Heritage Week 2023, by kind permission of the producers.

Brigid displays in Heritage Centre

A St Brigid's cloak display made by the boys and girls of the Kilcullen Community Childcare Centre has been put on display in the Heritage Centre, writes Brian Byrne.
The cloak features a montage of pictures created by the children, all aged between 3 and 12 years. Spread on the floor it is lit up at night so it can be seen through the glass doors of the Heritage Centre.
It joins the knitted tapestry made by the Suas Knitting Group which is also on display there, and which can be seen in the window from the laneway.

Town Hall and Heritage Centre set for enhanced future

Visitors to the Kilcullen Town Hall and Heritage Centre yesterday were Mick McCoy and Ollie Delaney, pictured here with the Secretary of the facility's committee, Eilis Keogh, writes Brian Byrne
A new committee has been set up to steer the centre to a busier future, and the Diary will be reporting shortly on the initial plans. In the revised committee, Esther O’Shea is Chair, Eilis Keogh Secretary and Nessa Dunlea Treasurer. Other members are Ray Kelly, Frank Mitchell and Graham Dowling.
The Heritage Centre was established in the year 2000 as part of a major refurbishment of the Town Hall premises under the direction of the late Pat Dunlea.
The Town Hall has a history as a community facility on the site going back to the 1930s, and recently a cinema part of that past has been successfully revived by the Kilcullen Lions Club, in association with Access Cinema.
