Great community night at Ballyshannon Table Quiz
Last night's Ballyshannon Action Table Quiz raised over €1,000 towards the group's fighting fund against the proposed Kilsaran quarry in the area, writes Brian Byrne. The quiz was held in Dowling's Bar in Ballyshannon.
"It was a great community night," a spokesperson for the group told the Diary. "The electricity came back just in time for the quiz, though a back-up power plan had been arranged just in case."
The community's quest to have a Judicial Review of the Bord Pleanala grant of permission for the quarry is due for mention in the High Court during the coming fortnight.
The original planning application for the Kilsaran quarry at Racefield, Ballyshannon, was turned down by Kildare County Council. This decision was overturned by Bord Pleanala, despite a recommendation from their own inspector that the appeal should be rejected. Ballyshannon Action have sought leave to have a judicial review of the ABP decision, and are awaiting a judgement on this request.
