Kilcullen ceramic artist Lesley Kelly had some of her work chosen for the Made Local 2024 campaign event launched on Tuesday last in the Dublin Municipal Theatre at Smock Alley, writes Brian Byrne. Eighteen of Lesley's pieces were on display, a number of which are pictured below.
The showcase featured beautiful work from many Irish artists and retailers, and was organised by the Design & Craft Council of Ireland, which supports designers and makers to develop their business in a sustainable way.
DCCI’s activities are funded by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment via Enterprise Ireland. Describing support for local design and craft as 'a celebration of our culture and creativity', Minister of State for Enterprise Emer O'Higgins urged people to invest in a Made Local gift this Christmas. "When we choose to buy a Made Local Christmas gift, we’re are investing in a beautifully crafted product, a piece of our unique culture, and a product that will stand the test of time," she said.
The Minister's thoughts were echoed by Paralympian and Made Local, Made to Last ambassador Ellen Keane, who said as someone who has represented Ireland, and has been supported on her journey, it is very important to her to champion Irish designers.
