Electricity outages affect health, work, says senator

Unplanned electricity outages in south Kildare are threatening the health of people who depend on electricity for necessary medical equipment, says Senator Mark Wall, who wants Eirgrid and the Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications to 'urgently' explain their frequency.
Senator Wall says the 'growing' intermittent and unplanned outages are also making it impossible for some people to work from home. "There seems to be a concentration of these unplanned outages in the Monasterevin, Athgarvan, and rural Athy areas, but not confined to those areas," he says. "They are causing too many people stress and worry and I am calling on all those involved with the supply of power to homes in these areas to urgently provide answers."
While the mission statement of Eirgrid says the company is 'making sure everyone has electricity when and where they need it', Senator Wall has a litany of complaints from people across the constituency suggesting this isn't happening.
"I will be following up with all involved and raising the matter in the Oireachtas," he says.
Senator Wall was recently selected as the Labour Party candidate for Kildare South in the next general election.
