Kilcullen to Kroker 'solo run' to complete GAA clubhouse car park

Around 500 of Kilcullen GAA's players from all team ages will gather on Sunday 3 November to complete a 100km 'solothon' to raise funds to surface the carpark at the clubhouse, writes Brian Byrne. About 70 of their youngest members turned out this morning for the launch of the Kilcullen to Kroker sponsored event.
The target for the fundraiser is €60,000, and in addition to local club members, former Kilcullen GAA stalwarts in many countries around the world — including Sweden, Germany, Australia and the US — will be joining in the fundraising as external participants.
The November event will take place around the main pitch. "The 100km is approximately the distance from the club to Croke Park and back," says Nick Egan, who detailed the plan to all present this morning. "It will be a tag event, with members of each team soloing in relay until we achieve the distance."
All the club's teams and their individual members are raising sponsorship for their efforts, and even before the launch there has already been a generous level of donation, which can be followed at this link. Sponsorship of teams and individual players can also be done at the website.
All going well with the Kilcullen to Kroker Solothon, and weather, it is hoped to have the car park work completed by the end of the year. The Solothon is also being supported by Kilsaran, one of the project partners of the Field of Dreams.

Meanwhile, the new 1.2-kilometre walkway which circles the Field of Dreams expansion of the club's facilities is almost finished. The first section of the walkway has already been tarmaced and the rest of it is expected to be completed by the end of the coming week.
