Council to cost extra lighting for Mile Mill-Brannockstown road

Kildare County Council has asked for a costing for extra public lighting on the road between Mile Mill and Brannockstown, following a request by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne.
Cllr O'Dwyer raised the matter at the recent meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD in a request for a status update on the matter which had been the subject of a previous motion.
Speaking to her question, the councillor noted that the unlighted section is a 'challenging' stretch of road where a life was lost in a tragic accident some years ago and which is particularly prone to black ice.
"As you head back from Mile Mill Cross there are six lights on the left then there is a gap where four houses don't have a light," Cllr O'Dwyer pointed out. "Then you come along to Grangemore and again there are six public lights, so I have asked the council to fill in the gap." She said that. even one extra light at the end of the Mile Mill line would provide lighting for the four houses that currently don't have it.
Officials told the meeting that a quotation has been requested from the public lighting maintenance contractor, and that provision of lighting will depend on the request’s ranking in the Kildare Lighting Infrastructure Priority Scheme (KLIPS), and availability of funds.
"That's one step forward," Cllr O'Dwyer said, accepting the report. "The next step will be to determine the funds to pay for the works."
