Vast range of activities for 36th Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival

Des Egan and Hans Pålsson.

Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven will all feature in the Hans Pålsson piano classical concert highlight of the 36th International Gerard Manley Hopkins Festival, on Saturday 20 July, writes Brian Byrne.
Pålsson is one of Sweden's most famous and beloved concert pianists and the concert will take place in Newbridge College Theatre, starting at 8pm, with a wine reception during the interval.
In the concert notes for the souvenir programme, Festival founder and artistic director Des Egan says Pålsson has the ability to make his audience not just listeners but part of the experience of the music.
The official reception and opening of the Festival will be on Friday 19 July, the honours provided by Christian Resch, Charge d'Affaires, Embassy of Germany. The evening, starting at 7pm, will include a surrealist art exhibition by Desmond Morris and music by Conor Mahony and Senan and Killian Moran. MC for the evening will be William Adamson, Academic Director, The Hopkins Festival Committee, (University of Bamberg).
The Festival was established in 1987 based on the poetry, painting, music, philosophy, and conservation interests of Gerard Manley Hopkins. It will run until 25 July with a vast range of related activities for participants, including the traditional Festival Club in Coffeys pub. The full brochure can be downloaded here
