Martin Heydon re-appointed as Minister of State
Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has been re-appointed as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture by newly elected Taoiseach Simon Harris.
Minister Heydon said he was honoured to be asked again to serve in Government and to continue his work as Fine Gael's voice in agriculture. "Farmers are under significant pressure at present due to the weather and my immediate focus will be on supporting them through this difficult time."
He was originally appointed Minister of State in July 2020 and since then has supported funding and progress for key infrastructure projects across Kildare and increased job opportunities within the county. In addition to his farming brief he has also worked to bring the concerns of small business to Government. Other points of focus for the Minister are children with special education needs who are waiting for school places and assessments of needs, and farm safety.
"We have seen a reduction in the number of farm fatalities, but much work continues on improving farmers' attitude to risk."
Minister Heydon says he also expects to continue seeking to develop high value markets for Irish food products, and on encouraging investment in climate research.
Martin Heydon is a former student of CPC and a farmer by profession, and was elected to the Dail for Kildare South in 2011.
