'People don't know Library location' - Cllr
A signpost is to be provided in Kilcullen indicating the way to the Community Library, writes Brian Byrne. This follows representations by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer.
The councillor raised the matter by way of motion at this morning's meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge Municipal District, where she said many people new to the town don't even know that Kilcullen has a Library. "All our libraries are the hidden gem in each town and Kilcullen library offers a wide range of services," she said. "While locals will know where the library is, it is amazing how many people new to the area don't actually know the location."
Cllr O'Dwyer said she had raised the matter previously, "but nothing came of it." So she had brought it forward by way of motion in the hope that a sign can be installed to acknowledge and identify the presence "of an excellent library in Kilcullen for all to use."
In their response, officials said the Transportation Department and Library service will review and agree the most appropriate location for a directional signpost.
