Community Centre more accessible for wheelchair users
Kilcullen Community Centre is now more accessible for users of wheelchairs thanks to an adaptation of the main doors, writes Brian Byrne.
With the help of a grant from the HSE, the doors are now motorised, and can be opened from outside and inside by the user waving at a panel. Sensors prevent the doors closing inadvertently while the wheelchair is going through.
Along with last year's completion of the works on the new Accessible Wet Room, the Centre is now more suited for use by people with disabilities.
"The front doors themselves were in perfect condition, so didn't have to be replaced with this adaptation," says Centre manager Enda O'Neill. "That saved us further expense."
