Kilcullen Lions Club in conjunction with other Lions Clubs on the island of Ireland have partnered with the not for profit charity Tools For Solidarity which is based in Belfast, writes Daragh Fitzgerald, Environment Officer with the Kilcullen club.
One of the main objectives of this organisation is to promote the recycling and refurbishment of used tools and equipment and then transport the refurbished items to Tanzania. There they will be used in training as well as establishing small sustainable businesses in both urban and rural areas. The aim is to help communities become more self reliant and last year approximately 4,900 donated items were shipped to Tanzania in the scheme.
Kilcullen Lions Club will have a collection area at Kilcullen Community Centre on Saturday 18 November next from 10am to 1pm, for donations of used manual hand tools such as spades, shovels, rakes etc, as well as sewing machines and electric hand tools. These items do not have to be in working order but should be in such a condition that they can be refurbished for use again.
