Kildare Heritage Week 2022 starts today

A reminder that there are a total of 66 events registered in Kildare for National Heritage Week 2020, which runs from 13-21 August, writes Brian Byrne.
They include guided tours, exhibitions, training workshops, talks, performances and festivals. The themes are legion from Biodiversity through Calligraphy to Urban Foraging and many more.
Among those close to Kilcullen are the Ballyshannon Heritage Landmarks guided walk on the 14th, and the Naturally Wild Biodiversity Workshop at The Tanyard in Ballitore on the same date, both starting at noon. There's a Scything Skills demonstration on Nicholastown Green on the 18th from 7.30pm with Ray Kelly of Kilcullen Community Action, and the the Grave Matters walk to New Abbey Graveyard on the 20th from 2pm.
There's a Walk on the Naas Branch of the Grand Canal in Naas on the 17th from 7pm, organised by the Kildare Library & Arts Service.
Kildare Town Community Garden are hosting the 'Invasion of the Tree People' - a rediscovery of trees in Kildare Town on the 20th from 1pm, and on the same day there's an exhibition of Ballymore Eustace in the 1900s by Christopher Darby in the Resource Centre in Ballymore from 3pm. If you feel like an evening stroll, you can go Bats About Newbridge at sunset from the Watering Gates starting at 8.45pm.
There are Canal Cruises to the Leinster Aqueduct all through the week from 1pm-4.45pm, a full afternoon's experience of the heyday of the barges. Or if you feel like walking the Corbally Link to near Kilcullen, there's a guided event starting at Jigginstown from 11am on the 21st.
There's lots more to explore, many events are aimed at children and families, and the full Kildare listing at the moment can be accessed here. It would be a good idea to sit down  and plan the week to make the most of what's on offer.
