Danny Mahon, who boxes for Fr Flanagan's club in Ballymore Eustace, won his All Ireland Final in the National Stadium on the 19th June.
A CPC student whose Mam Joanne is from Kilcullen, Danny beat Liam Kelly from Dublin in the quarter final and then beat Kilkenny boxer Konsulas Vasilos in the semi final. Danny kept the best till last for the final where he met Joseph Ritchie from Antrim, a very talented boxer.
The final was a pulsating contest from start to finish. Danny boxed on the front foot throwing three- and four-shot combinations, keeping the pressure on Ritchie for all three rounds, and ground out a split decision to become All Ireland Champion.
Danny goes to Turkey in August for the European Championships where he will represent Ireland at 54kgs. He started his training in High Performance in the Stadium in preparation for the championship every week and will train four nights a week with his own club. The family lives in Great Connell, Newbridge.
The club would like to congratulate Danny on his momentous achievement and wish him all the best in Turkey, representing county and country
This is the Third All Ireland the Fr Flanagan club has won this season — Glen McStay won Youth Title and Daragh Gilroy won All Ireland U22.
