Seanchai Books opens in Kildare Town
A long-held ambition of sister and brother team, Bernadette Burke and Martin Kelly — to manage and curate a bookshop — was realised in recent weeks, with the opening of Seanchai Books in Kildare Town.
Bernadette and Martin grew up in Kilcullen at a time of great community spirit and local endeavour, and hope to create a modern bookshop with a distinct sense of place and community.
In the very relaxed and welcoming environment that is the shop itself, Seanchai offers an extensive collection, from today’s ‘bestsellers’ through to topics of local interest. The pair see the business developing very much in tandem and in step with, their customer’s interests, needs, and requirements.
In addition, Bernadette and Martin are very interested in work produced locally — cards from Wild Paper Studio in Nurney are already on sale in the shop — and would love to hear from local artisans, with a view to stocking and promoting their products.
To one day be regarded and recognised as ‘the town’s bookshop' in Kildare, would be for Bernadette and Martin the definition of success, and if the avalanche of good wishes, goodwill and local support they have received in the short space of time since opening at Easter, is anything to go by, they are well and truly on their way!
Seanchai Books are located on Claregate Street in Kildare Town (opposite the library), and can be contacted at 087 9885643 or by email seanchaibooks@gmail.com.
