Rain this morning will clear to bring some sunny spells, with showers through the afternoon.
Winds will be fresh and gusty from the west, with highest temperature of around 8deg, feeling colder in the breeze. Drier and brighter conditions in the evening.
On this day in 1797, what is known as The Last Invasion of Britain took place near Fishguard, Wales, when a contingent of French soldiers landed headed by a former US Continental Army lieutenant, William Tate, who had family connections in Wexford and was a friend of Wolf Tone. The 'invasion' was a failure, the French surrendering at Goodwich Sands two days later.
