Damaged kerb destroys tyres on Sunnyhill

Ongoing concerns about the levels of traffic along Sunnyhill were brought into sharp focus today when the car above was forced onto the kerb outside one of the houses on the road, writes Brian Byrne.
The driver said he had to go to the kerb because of an oncoming car. The result was two burst tyres, because the kerb has a sharp edge. Damage to the tyres and the alloy rims are likely to incur substantial costs for the car owner. A resident told the Diary that the kerb is sharp-edged because it has been damaged by trucks.
Trucks are a continuing issue along the road, which is used as a link road to Newbridge. Residents have photographed damage to walls, and trucks having locked together because of inadequate room to pass.
Residents are currently awaiting the results of last year's campaign against proposals to raise speed limits on part of the road from 60km/h to 80km/h.
