Council to consider 'don't leave valuables' sign for New Abbey

Kildare County Council is to consider providing signage at New Abbey Graveyard reminding visitors not to leave valuables in their car, writes Brian Byrne.

This was agreed at Wednesday's meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD, on a motion from Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer. The councillor referenced the distress caused when cars are broken into at the graveyard. Officials agreed to look into the provision of a sign, though noting that 'ultimately this is an individual responsibility'.

"The advice of An Garda Siochana is not to leave any valuable items or money in your car," the report to the meeting said. "By taking the simple step of not leaving any valuables on display, people can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime."
