A start could be made on the provision of a proper footpath along the New Abbey Road to the two graveyards with the announcement of a €9,900 grant from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, writes Brian Byrne.
A submission for the funding had been made to Kildare County Council by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, following a request from a resident to have the old Slí na Sláinte route improved for cyclists and pedestrians.
The councillor says the detail of the scope of works has yet to be confirmed, but the money will go towards safer footpaths and signage.
A detailed map of the route had been prepared for the original proposal to the Parks Team in KCC.
It's understood that once the work gets started, there will be opportunity for further funding.
