Weatherday: Staying in tune for centuries
Going to be a long wet day, mostly. Some showers heavy, and later this evening some very severe rain for a time. Blustery fresh southerly winds will continue.
Highest temperature 12deg during the morning, getting cool this evening.
On this day in 1737, Italian violin-maker Antonio Stradivari died. Some 244 of his creations still survive, regarded as some of the finest bowed instruments ever created. One in an Oxford museum is valued at around €160m.
