The Santa Truck operated by Judge Haulage of Allenwood will be coming through Kilcullen on Saturday evening next, after a run through the county which will have taken in Clane, Sallins, Kilgowan, Castledermot and Athy, writes Brian Byrne.
The massive Peterbilt American semi rig is a most distinctive vehicle, and as the Santa Truck it makes a very special impression.
Tony Judge told the Diary that this is the last weekend the truck will be travelling this Christmas, and it will be coming through Kilcullen sometime between 5.30pm and 6.15pm, which will depend on traffic and how the earlier part of the run has gone.
Unfortunately, Tony won't be able to stop in the town, because Covid restrictions don't allow the gathering of a crowd, but it will be well worth a look as it travels through. Anyone turning out is asked to observe social distancing and Covid safety protocols. We'll try and update the time on late Saturday afternoon.
As for the truck itself, Tony had always had a dream to acquire one. The Judges have been in the haulage and fuel business for some 50 years, and there's something about American trucks that sets them apart from the normal European makes. "I have it about 14 years now. It certainly catches the eye."
After this weekend, the last of three, the Santa Truck will have covered all of Kildare, catching a lot of eyes and raising some much-needed smiles of Christmas cheer in this year.
