KCA plants on Naas Road
Kilcullen Community Action members and CE workers spent yesterday planting Whitethorn and Hazel along the Naas Road approaches.
The work is part of the group's Biodiversity Action Plan 2020/2021.
Both species are native to Ireland. The Hazel tree was once believed in Irish lore to be the 'tree of knowledge'.
They were part of a consignment of almost 1,500 trees and hedging plants supplied via Kildare County Council and Green Pine Consulting as part of the Action Plan.
The species included Alder, Birch, Oak Sessile, Oak Pedunculate, Scots Pine, Rowan, Hawthorn and Hazel. They have been planted on the Naas Road, Dunlavin Road, Nicholastown, Valley park, Sunnyhill Field, and the Kilcullen Community Garden.
"A big thank you to Noel and his team, Martin, Ilona and Paul for the sterling work this week, getting them into the ground," says Paul Leighton from the BAP Group.
