Irish Water ignores Council on water plans for Brannockstown, Kilcullen

No response has been made by Irish Water to a request that they make a presentation to Kildare County Council on their proposed plans for the water supply in Brannockstown and surrounding areas, writes Brian Byrne.

Responding to a question from Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer on the matter at yesterday's meeting of the Kildare Newbridge Municipal District, District Manager Joe Boland said a reminder had been issued, and the matter raised again with Irish Water at 'a senior management meeting'. He described the lack of response as 'regrettable'.

The issue is over plans by Irish Water to divert more water from Ballymore to the Dublin area, as previously reported on the Diary. The move would mean a tripling of water abstraction from the River Barrow, to replace the diverted water in the Ballymore, Brannockstown, Kilcullen and Naas areas.

Cllrs O'Dwyer and Evie Sammon had both raised the concerns in their respective MDs, and subsequently it had been agreed at a full Council meeting that Irish Water be asked to present their plans to the councillors.
