Councillor supports Kilcullen Design Statement funding
Cllr Rob Power has committed €2,250 from his councillor's discretionary budget to go towards the cost of a Design Statement for Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.
This was agreed at yesterday's meeting of the Kildare Newbridge Municipal District meeting and the commitment will go towards the Kilcullen Community Action portion of the total cost of the Design Statement, estimated at €24,000. An application is being made to the Kildare Leader Partnership to provide the bulk of the funding.
The Design Statement will complement and help inform the Local Area Plan and will be used by the local community, the local authority and other stakeholders to guide in-fill or new local development, to ensure that the existing character and distinctiveness identified through the process is conserved and enhanced.
The Statement will also incorporate an agreed action plan setting out specific and phased projects that should be delivered by the local community and its partners. The project will be developed using the Heritage Council’s Community-led Village Design Statement Toolkit.
"Since my election six years ago I've taken on an interest in urban design and town planning," Cllr Power told the Diary. "It's fantastic to see a local group like KCA taking this initiative themselves and when the opportunity to leverage Leader funds for this project came about I was more than happy to support. I'm grateful to Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, who I worked with to get approval of this funding at Wednesday's council meeting."
