Weatherday: One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock

A grey start and it's going to stay that way through Easter Sunday. Showers of rain will become heavy and persistent at times.

Northeasterly winds will build through moderate, to fresh and gusty. Top temperatures in Kilcullen will reach 10deg in mid-morning, dipping to 7/8deg through the afternoon and evening.

On this day in 1954, the then unrecognised birth of 'rock 'n roll' happened with the recording by Bill Haley and his Comets of Rock Around the Clock.

It's a busy day for firsts, as in 1937, Frank Whittle in England ground-tested the first jet engine designed to power an aircraft, and in 1961 Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human to orbit the earth in space.
