Weather: A bad night at Caesar's home

If we still used cressets, they'd have been guttering as we waited before daylight for what looks like being a long wet and windy day. And any left lit through the morning would likely be extinguished as both wind and squally rain showers increase.

Severe gusts in the afternoon will test any trees left weakened by previous storms. Temperatures up to 12 degrees.

Cressets? Go back to John Masefield's 'The Rider at the Gate'. Among his most evocative opening lines.
