Farmers asked to record dates of seasonal nature events
A call for farmers to participate in a nationwide recording of key nature events has been made by the National Biodiversity Data Centre, writes Brian Byrne.
By receiving reports of these events from across the country the Centre is aiming to build a better understanding of climate change in Ireland and how it is affecting Ireland’s wildlife.
The initiative gives eight natural seasonal events and provides a website recording system for those taking part to make a timeline when they occur.
The eight are the first appearances of frog spawn, Primrose flower, Blackthorn hedge flower, Orange-tip butterfly, Grey Mining Bee, Large Red Damselfly, Cuckoo, and the first Barn Swallow, on their farms.
