Councillors support funds for Kilcullen Christmas lights

There was wide support from councillors to providing Kilcullen with funding towards this year’s Christmas lights, writes Brian Byrne. But the matter was deferred amid confusion as to where the funds would come from.

The question came up at yesterday's meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD under motion from Cllr Tracey O’Dwyer, who told the meeting that Kilcullen Community Action had made an application for €6,000 towards the cost of the lights.

“I apologise for raising the subject of Christmas so early, but Kilcullen is very organised and they’re ploughing ahead with arrangements,” she said.

In discussion, it transpired that the Naas MD to which Kilcullen attached before the summer elections may have made provision for the funding already.

A number of options were raised, including the possibility of advancing funds from next year’s LPT allocation to the Kildare-Newbridge MD.

Cllr O’Dwyer said she would be happy to have the motion adjourned to the October meeting while the source of funding was clarified by officials.
