Volunteers call for foreshore species survey
If you're visiting the beaches and other parts of the country's foreshore during the summer, you could get involved in recording and mapping the variety of species around our coasts, writes Brian Byrne.
Under the banner 'Explore Your Shore!', the National Biodiversity Data Centre is seeking volunteers to explore coastal biodiversity.
The initiative is working with a number of existing marine biodiversity surveys, to significantly increase levels of recording of coastal marine species in Ireland. It is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.
A suite of online surveys will be used to collate the information. As part of the project, a number of survey and identification workshops will be held across Ireland.
