Scoil Bhride pupils perform historical play tomorrow

Children from two of the Fifth classes in Scoil Bhride will be performing a play tomorrow specially written for Kilcullen 700. They are pupils from Mr O Raoghaill's and Mr Elliffe's classes.

The play, 'The Old Bridge of Kilcullen', is set around a number of key historical events in Kilcullen, including the 1798 Rebellion and the visit of The Liberator, Daniel O'Connell. It also recalls the Kildare bid for All Ireland glory in 1998 and has been written by Maurice O'Mahony, a former member of Scoil Bhride staff.

The play is full of comedy and farce, derring-do and bravery, and and great acting by the children who have been making huge efforts at rehearsals. There will also be music from the school's outstanding choir who will accompany the proceedings with hits from Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Clancy Brothers, and The Pink Panther, among others.

In addition, the parents and invited guests from the Kilcullen 700 group who will attend tomorrow's performance will be treated to a stunning visual background, superb costumes, and very realistic props which the children have spent months putting together.

And a visit from a couple of colourful participants in the current Dail Eireann is also on the cards ...
