Canoe Club resumes midweek paddle sessions
The clocks have changed to Summer Time and the longer evenings mean that Kilcullen Canoe Club (KCC) kayakers can get on the water for midweek paddle sessions, writes Michael P O'Farrell.
KCC is continuing its training activities by moving from the gym on to the water. The club is open every Tuesday and Thursday night from 7pmM.
If you are interested in joining, contact the club at secretary@kilcullencanoeclub.com or call down to the club on one of those Tuesday or Thursday nights.
For those who never sat in a kayak (canoe) before, the club will start beginners kayak course on 14th May. This course will be run over six evenings in May (on Tuesday and Thursday nights) and finishing up with a river trip.
In other club news, four Kilcullen Canoe Club paddlers raced in the first ranking race of the year at Celbridge and Ronan Foley continued his winning form by taking first place in the premier Division - Div 1.
KCC will host its own race on 20th April (Easter Saturday). The long course starts at Ballymore-Eustace with a short course starting at Carnalway Bridge. The race will be run in flood conditions and finish at the clubhouse, upriver from the bridge in Kilcullen.
You are welcome to drop down to see the competitors finish at the clubhouse.
