Kilcullen Tidy Towns planning parade float

Young Tidy Towns helpers in 2017 parade.
A variety of the activities and projects of Kilcullen Community Action will be showcased in the upcoming St Patrick's Day Parade, writes Brian Byrne.

The most recent meeting of the group discussed how the 32-foot truck-based float should be decorated for the event, with the main element being stylised depictions of the bridge.

The main theme will be a river running under the metal bridge cutouts, which are being made by local businessman Jonathan Keogh. Four of them will be used at each approach road to the town to mark the Kilcullen 700 anniversary.

Litterpicking will be demonstrated by collections of plastic bottles, cans, and crisp bags. There will also be elements showing Kilcullen in Bloom and the Christmas lights programmes.

Consideration is also being given to placing the newly acquired beehive on the float to show the group's Native Bees project which is being led by Paul Leighton.

Another suggestion at the meeting was do highlight Kilcullen's plans to become a more sustainable community, by adding a convoy of locally-owned electric cars in the parade.
