Fairy Trail project on track
The storyboards for the new Fairy Trail for the Valley Park were shown at last night's meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.
The meeting was told by Antoinette Buckley that the project was on track and all would be ready for the opening of the Trail on Saturday 16 March.
One of the fairies has been named in honour of Canon Maurice Jakis, who built the first bridge at Kilcullen 700 years ago.
The official opening will be at 2.30pm on the 16th, and will be followed by drinks and fairy cakes in An Tearmann for the children who come along.
It is hoped that children will dress up in fairy costume, and fairy wings will be available for the first 50 to come. The children will also be encouraged to participate in costume at the next day's St Patrick's Day Parade.
Fairy bunting for trees in the Valley has also been produced by the Suas Knitting Group.
A fairy Gilly House, named after the late Jim 'The Gilly' Collins who was one of the prime movers behind the development of the Park, is also part of the project, and last night's meeting heard that the materials for this have been sponsored by Flanagan Timber.
