A very special opening night for 'A Wake in the West'

Bernard with the cast and director Eilis Phillips before curtain up.
The opening night of any Kilcullen Drama Group production is very important, because it is by tradition played to seniors from the community, writes Brian Byrne.

But it was particularly special last night to cast, crew, and all in the Town Hall Theatre because they had a very special guest in the audience, Bernard Berney, who has been unwell.

He received a wonderful reception from everyone present, and by all accounts he thoroughly enjoyed the production of 'A Wake in the West', written by Michael J Ginnelly and directed by Eilis Phillips (Bernard probably had notes for her afterwards ...).

The cast of 12 includes many of the 'usual suspects' with whom Bernard has been so closely entangled for more decades than any of them care to think about.

Sold out for this week, the play's run has been extended through Tuesday to Friday of next week.
