Meeting on Community Garden

A meeting between representatives of Kilcullen Community Action and the Kildare Library Service will discuss the next steps towards provision of a Community Garden in Kilcullen, writes Brian Byrne.

A plan for the garden, in the grounds of Kilcullen Community Library, has been presented to Library and other council officials, the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action heard.

Olive Sheridan, leading the KCA proposal with her husband Martin, is scheduled to meet Executive Librarian Evelyn Cooley on Friday to consider the next steps.

Approval from the Library Service is necessary before there's any further move.

According to the plan prepared for KCA by Derek Hoey, any development of the garden would be in two phases.

The first of these would be to provide vegetable planters and a wildflower area. Next would be the provision of a 'reflection area', which would be developed in conjunction with the wildflower section.

The discussion on an overall three-year plan included accessibility for all ages, a possible water feature, facilities for the visually impaired, provision of a community allotments, and whether the garden should be chemical free?
