KCA plans for rest of year

The organisation of key activities up to Christmas was the focus of discussion at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.

These included the annual Community Awards, set for Thursday 8 November; the Christmas Lights Street Collection on Saturday 17 November; and the Christmas Market in the market square on Saturday 8 December.

Nominations for the Community Awards have been called for, and the format for the event will be similar to last year, in the Town Hall beginning at 7.30pm.

An outline of the costs involved in providing the Christmas Lights is to be prepared and the town businesses will be canvassed for subscriptions of support. As part of an upgrade to the lights, a costing has been requested for new lights for the bridge.

An order is to be placed for Christmas trees for the square, and there was some discussion as to whether lights could be incorporated in the tree outside Market Square House.

The meeting heard that all the Kilcullen in Bloom displays had now been removed, and a 'thank you' for their support is being sent to businesses, along with links to the Tidy Towns 2018 report. (The painted bicycles at the bridge and CPC gates have been retained, and decorated with a Halloween theme.)

The meeting welcomed the 'fantastic news' about the €200,000 grant for the Market Square Develeopment Project.

The next meeting of KCA is in O'Connell's upstairs lounge on Thursday 18 October, at 8.15pm.

A walkabout on the Kilcullen Tidy Towns Plan planned for last Saturday (13th) was washed out to a meeting in Creans. The group kicked off discussions on half of the six categories, and it's hoped to complete these at a meeting on Saturday next (20th) at a 9.30am meeting in the Town Hall.
