Call for Baptism Teams

Parish Priest Fr Michael Murphy is looking for volunteers to train as members of 'Baptism Teams'.

He makes the appeal in the latest Kilcullen Parish Newsletter, the new publication produced for the Parish Pastoral Council by Petra Conroy.

These teams will offer support to parents who offer their children for the sacrament of Baptism in Kilcullen Parish.

"Given the number of babies being born, we need plenty of helping hands to establish this important ministry in our parish," Fr Murphy says. "Baptism is the first of the sacraments, a first meeting with Jesus Christ our Saviour. The priest, on behalf of the parish family, welcomes the new member."

Suggesting that this should not be the task of the priest on his own, Fr Murphy says he is always 'a little saddened' that he, as a priest, seems to be on his own in this welcoming.

"We would really like to hear from any parishioners who would like to help," he writes.

The newsletter is published every second week and is distributed at masses in the parish. The next issue will be available from Saturday 4 November.
