Castlemartin road being repaired
Work has just begun on dealing with a problem on the stretch of road at the bottom of the hill near Pinkeen Stream, at the entrance to the Castlemartin housing estates.
"It is more or less a tidying up of the situation," town engineer Willie Purcell told the Diary. "The problem here was the the water mains was close to the surface and we couldn't compact the material above it. What we've arranged with the contractor is that the main be put deeper, then we'll be able to finish it properly."
He said that the road will then be completed from the existing finished edge on the school side of the hill up to the Sunnyhill Road where surfaces have already been upgraded.
Noting that a considerable amount of work has now been done by the Council in several areas of Kilcullen, the engineer added that he'd like to finish the footpaths on the Curragh Road soon, as the surfaces were poor.
